This month Paris hosts its 18th annual vintage shopping sale. There will be over 150 sellers exhibiting their treasures: clothing, accessories, furniture, home goods, vinyls and other surprises. The closet sale of the year is being hosted in the Haut-Marais's Carreau du Temple, a beautiful covered market dating back to 1863. And with a DJ playing sets all weekend, the atmosphere will be shop till you drop à la Parisienne.
Each year the event includes a special exhibition inside the market. This year the subject is the iconic Yves Saint Laurent Safari Jacket, or the "Saharienne." This signature piece of French fashion was popularized in the late 60s and 70s by YSL muses Loulou de la Falaise and Betty Catroux, and still reappears in countless designer collections today. Proving that vintage never goes out of style.
True vintage pieces also tend to be better quality than clothing from modern brands, and offer something unique that won't be found in every store. But most important of all, shopping vintage is sustainable. Second-hand products have no footprint and consume no resources. They don't require any virgin fibers, water, dyes or chemicals. And they don't go to the landfill. Vintage fashion is 100% harm-free. We can't think of a better reason to get out there and get shopping!
